Ive never seen or heard of a fish doing this. In my experience when you see a fish lay on the bottom like that they dont have much time left. Plus i have a stingray in the tank with him, now if he was sick and unhealthy he would get chompped and chewed up by the ray laying on the bottom like that, but he is wise and healthy enough to avoid this from happening!
I had a Frontosa that wouldn’t float normal except for meal time towards the end of his life. In his case though he had developed a large bump Or tumor on his side right before his tail. He would mostly be in a vertical position head up tail down and lifeless until it was time to eat. He always looked like he was dead. I hope the situation for your Jack improves
Poor guy! Beauty of a JD! Does he seem to struggle to stay upright when he swims? Sure would like to see a video. I don't think this is normal for a fish. Something is going on. Food can be a great motivator.
