Blue Dempseys are beautiful but are a community tank fish to me. They also need perfect water like discus. I know I am always suggesting Green Terrors but they a beautiful fish that can hang with the big boys. I say get a Male GT!
see i would say a GT would present a whole different prob. now you would have a gt terrorising the tank instead of the oscar, you would just be replacing a dictator for anouther one. i would say try to get a fish with simmilar attitude as the oscar. krussie maybe?

My Gt had a fight with a Indian snakehead and came off better I have had gt, red devil ,jd and dovii they all can hold there own with bigger fish but can be a problem with each other a friend of mine has one of my old snakeheads its killed several tank mates but lives fine with a red devil. big cichlids of this sort can be a pain especially male ones, but with some time and effort and some cost it can work out. I have a male jd and female dovii with a load of other oddball fish in a 6ft and they are fine now they know there place in the tank I have found Oscar to be the best of them all getting along with them all. Getting back to it my jd is fine in my tank but i got him off some one who was going to flush him cos he was a menace in the tank he was in, but that was a 4 ft The way I see it that if you give them room all should be fine. Crowd them on top of each other and carnage will come next .

That should be fine, you will definently not have over crowding. I had my two oscars (5-7") with a pleco and a pictus cat.

Jds are great fish, i used to have a 9" male in my 65 g. alone, he was huge. they are so inexspensive when they are juvies, I've seen em for 1.98, but those electric blues, jeez those are crazy i saw a 1" at a lfs once for 40.00! that is seriously nuts!

I have a 5' oscar with a 2-3' JD and they get along pretty well. I have noticed tho that the JD does do a lil nipping, but other than that they get along really well! Enjoy, they both are bad A fish!!!

i have a 10" and a 12" oscar in a 250 with 2 JDs that are just slightly too big for the O's to eat, with 4 pairs of convicts and a 14" pleco

I bought my jack feb 2010 and he is was 2", it is now nov and he is 8". Mine grew very fast with a mix of beef heart, ghost shrimp, and Hikari sinking carnivore pellets. Also strangely he loves the algae discs for my brislenose and will bully him off for it.

Yup.. jack dempsey do get huge...

I'd say get a female for it.. and maybe a EBJD and thats pretty much it..
You dont want to do overkill on your tankmates with the fish..
