Jack Dempsey - Visual Growth Rate

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah, hopefully his growth continues at this rate. I am guessing it wil start to taper off once he is around 5 1/2" long, that seems to be the general concensus.

i have noticed a darker substrate caused the demspey to be darker. I thought the ones at the LFS were just stressing but they were on lighter shades of substrate. Also I noticed the lines come out better with a group of them. My dominate male has the brightest spots on his sides.

I just had a read through your post!
What a great idea, I love the JD, and will be one of the first fish I will try to breed once all my new tanks are set up!
Cant wait to see how it matures!

Hey everybody, thought I would post an update. I haven't had a whole lotta time to spare, with the new baby and new house but here are some shots taken in the last week.

The ol' boy is getting big. My best guess would be 5 inches or just over 5". His diet has changed slightly, he still gets Hikari Gold as a staple, but he eats earthworms and chopped up bait shrimp as live supplements, and an occasional algae wafer if he feels like it.

He is starting to grow psuedo-canines which I am stoked about! :WHOA:

He is quite a bully, I tried introducing a Gold Severum about a month ago, and for the first few days it went very well. But it only must have taken one altercation and that was the end of the severum.:(

He still takes food from my hand, and will almost come out of the water for a half an earthworm. He is a great fish and I can't wait for him to really fill out.

Enjoy
