I did a previous thread like this with Green Terror .vs. Oscar, and I thought it turned out pretty good. Just like to see what you guys think. Pros and Cons of each fish? What you guys prefer and why.

Almost equal to me. Both are better wild caught, as many captive strains are ultra inbred. For looks, apples and oranges. JD's are among the most beautiful of blue cichlids, while Oscars do a great job of the orange/red spectrum. JD's are smaller, so better for a 55g. But they also are a little less interactive than O's.
If a guy was running by with an Oscar in one hand and a JD in the other, screaming, "Save my fish! Pick one!", It would take me a moment to decide. I'd probably take the Oscar, but JD's are right up there.

My Jd has one of the funniest personalities ive ever seen. He scares himself alot. And usually hangs in his cave until the evenings then gets real active. Ive never been a fan of O's. So my vote goes to the Dempsey, beautiful fish if you get from the right breeders. Im sure O's are just as inbred as the mainline dempseys have gotten. The physical deformities might not be as predominant.
i am a bigger fan of the jd's cause they are a bit more aggresive and i think are pretty then the average o. and they can be pretty even if they are girls here is mine
also they can have just as much of a personality as an o, my girls are trained and the one fights her reflection and the other will shake the crap out of a night crawler or goldfish befor eating it, in my experience the o's just swim and gulp down anything. it is your choice but i would go with the jd. also even though the o's have lots of different color morphs i personally think that one of the worlds most beautiful fish is the electric blue jack dempsey, just my opinion...

IMO Oscars are more like dogs, fairly similar personality and seem to recognize and associate with regulars in the household. Also not quite as territorial as JD's.
