Jack Dempseys: Love them, hate them, why?

Jacks are awesome and those who say that don't have personality maybe had ones that didn't have them .I had a male name MAD MAX pictured with fry was one of the smartest fish I've owned. Jacks like any cichlid can vary in personality and agression. There awesome fish. By far my favorite fish. Umbeeking and Me are hoping to bring the red wine variant back from Belize those guys are amazing.

had a jd in college. Had great personality when small but got boring and color faded as it got older. I just think their facial structure is very blah looking.

I love my dempseys. I've got quite a few BGJDs and EBJDs and of course my big gold male. They all have great personalities and awesome color. I also have/had other colorful cichlids(festae, GTs, Cutteri, flowerhorns) but dempseys will always be the first cichlid I loved

I personally hate chichlids. I will admit they have some very nice colours, but I hate how they are everywhere. It bothers me when I go to a lfs and literary 1/4th of their selection is chichlids, seems like a waste of space. Or when you go to someones home and they claim to have an amazing fish tank, and when you see it its all chichlids. Boreing...

I dont intend to step on anyones toes here, its all personal preference.

The only cichlid section I post in is the cichla for my peacock bass, unless im responding to a question someone asked such as this thread.

Pbass are the only members of the cichlid family I would ever own, and thats because I dont consider them to be a typical cichlid. When ever people ask me what fish is that, I tell them a type of bass, even though technically its not true.

The jack I have now I gladly took off my friends hands after is home was destroyed by a tornado two years ago. He is currently solo and is a glass-banger. Yes he does hide sometimes, but I have yet to see one that looks quite like him. I'l try and get a decent pic up...
