I am looking for a single fish for my tank (35 gallon) and if necassary I will upgrade when the time comes. I am wondering how long could I keep one in the 35 gallon? And what size tank will he need? And please tell me anything else I will need to know about keeping them! They get about 8 inches right?

Thanks
Mike

Jack's dont grow extremely fast so you could get away with a 35 for a little while if you buy a single small fish. But I dont think I would keep one in less than 55gal as a single and 75-90 as a pair. They can grow to between 8-12 inches in rare cases larger.

i have three and they're awesome fish. very tough, and some of them get beautiful colors, green and blue. feed a good variety of food, pellets, frozen brine shrimp or blood worms, krill, they love all that stuff. i would say the tank should be at least a 55 gallon and watch what you put in their with them, they can get very aggressive the bigger they get. all in all, pretty easy fish to take care of, they can tolerate a wide range of water parameters and have great personality

JD's grow really slow.... Get an Electric Blue Jack Dempsey... You will be ok for a long time before you have to upgrade...
