just try to go back to the basics... learn from asking... and ask again if you don't get it... and don't jump in so deep .... take your time and have a plan... we all make mistakes.. but the best thing is too avoid the mistakes if you can... by listening and learning to others who made the mistakes before you...

Thanks Lupin :D

Remember one thing.. everyone is different in many aspects..some people need many lessons.. some can absorb info right away.. etc etc..it is up to us to do our best in giving our advice.. to all.. once the advice is given your part is done... you did your good deed for the day..:D if you are getting burnt out giving your advice let someone else handle it... until you feel good about it again..

i often forget that some people need to see it to belive it...

i wouldn't exactly say i am burnt out on giving advise...i just kinda would like to see more people realise that we aren't attacking them or belittling them, but actually concerned for the fishes well being...then after listening to the expirenced keepers, end up having a fish grow into a monster instead of fertilizer...

a good little lession i learned a while back is that, in order to learn you must first listen...that saying is something that is fading with the younger crowd...i am only 24 and i am saying that about alot of my own age group and some in the group before me...

Lets just let it go now.. i understand your points.. but one thing... there are alot of older people who don't want to listen too.. it is totally individual thing... remember we are all here for one purpose..to learn and to teach.. everything else is just the fun of being here..

I am a relative noob to fish-keeping, but I do have lots of experience (professionally) in giving advice to people.

The key is to never be condescending..This is what I find missing in the comments of most of these (recently un-banned) experts.

Let me correct that: Don't be condescending if you actually care about the well-being of the fish and in educating the new-comer asking advice/making some mistake and do not just want to be a jerk showing off some esoteric knowledge.

Having said that, as a newcomer to "Monster Fish", the help and advice of all the experts on MFK has been invaluable in helping me keep my fish happy. And I hope they continue to guide the rest of us in the right direction.

Disclaimer: I was a CompSci post-grad (nerd!) before getting into Management ("professional bull****ting"). So that part about "don't be condescending" is a lesson learned from my own mistakes.

A simple tip: Please avoid over-use of this emoticon :screwy: unless it's self-deprecating or in good humor.
