Thanks guys! To get massive amounts of blue water quality must be 5ppm of nitrate and lower. Mine is kept at 3ppm. Lots of protein and carotene in the diet. Mine is also wild caught so he might have a little more blue than Captive bred fish. Mine will probably get even more blue too.
 
I have a hard enough time keeping my nitrates around 10-15ppm. :irked:
 
Wow and you have trouble? That is light stocking. Add some floating live plants they will help a little with the nitrates as the will absorb them. I have 6 amazon sword plants in there so it is a little better along with 2-50% water changes a week.
 
Yeah I don't get it either. I'm doing one 50-75% WC a week, doing that my nitrates get down to 10 but by the end of the week they are back around 20.

I don't have enough lighting (one 24" single tube) to keep plants alive.
