I don't believe in sexing jags by the shape of their fins. I have seen big beautiful males with rounded fins and females with long pointed fins. This is my first jag, I know a lot of keepers of them and so I am in no way an authority on this fish. If there is another way to sex a young jag I would like to hear it. He/she is about 2.5-3" long. The bars are starting to break up and small black spots are forming.This fish is a little bad ass. Any opinions would be cool!!!

i would say female because it has the rounded fins, and is darker than normal males but i could be worng i'm not a jaguar expert

I'll say female too because of the stripes. I'm not a sexing expert either though.

i think it's a female beacause the lines should be more broken up than that, but there is a great deal of color already on the fins so i'm not sure.
what kind of plant has leaves like that? or is that fake?

Id say female because of the lines but it is a nice dark fish hard to tell

At that size a flip of a coin is what you are looking at. Here is pic of my old Male. Notice the once distinct lines breaking as he approaches the 6 inch mark. He was also very bulky at even two inches, so I thought he might be a male.
(Also note in the first pic how ROUNDED the dorsal and anal fins look) Absolutely not an indicator of sex.
