My husband would like a Jaguar cichlid, and a did a bit of research on the net, and the stories I read were as follows: "My Jag killed everything" "I have an 300 gal with the meanest Jag and it killed everything". I only read one post where a lady had one living with other fish, and it was not too mean. One man said he had a hard time cleaning out his tank without getting bitten.

Could these be a bit over zellous stories, are they that bad???

I have a 200 gal I am fixing up. I have 6 juv oscars,( will be 2 when I decide wich ones to keep) 1 jack dempsey, 1 green terror, 1 pleco, 2 sm raphael cats, a clown loach...and for the time a albino corey cat( left over from my community tank oscars do not bother it).

I'd like to get him a jag if they are not too bad, but I love my Oscars, and do not want to have them killed or bullied. All of my juvs are in a 90 gal at the moment ( FOR ABOUT A WEEK MORE OR SO)...I will have an extra 90 gal sitting around...I could put a jag in it...but can anything else go in with it?
Thanks!

my 10'' jag lives with a rd,pike,2 jd,gt,salvini, pleco, and 3 loaches he is laidback but it depends on the fish some are just killer but in a 220 he should be fine

my jag (he's purdy) is about 13-14" and lives with a 24" silver arowana, 11ish" oscar, 2 clown knives (13 and 16") an albino channel cat (14") a 8 or so inch pleco, and a 17" chinese perch.
I've also had a flower horn and a smaller arowana with him.

He CAN be agressive, but only if another fish is messing with him. He was in with nothing but oscars in a 265 before i got him.

It all depends on the fish, but I really think you can get away with it. Mine has never caused a problem

A jag would be ok for a very long time in a 90, but try to get a male *they look much better IMO*

Cool! I may try to get one then, I could use my 90 as a back up if any problems did arise.

May I ask another question...

My local fish stores do not carry them right now (season?) But I did find them on the internet for sale. They will fed ex it to my house. I would rather pick out my own fish. Any one have any luck with on line stores?
Thanks for the help!

If your gonna order one order a wild one from jeff raps. or one of the other sponsors on our websiyte that deal in wild caught. if not. pay shipping and 15 bucks i send you a 5 incher. That came from a pair of jags i caught in the florida canals.

Your question to weathewr they mean or not. Some are very mean and wont let anything be with it. others are very docile. The best thing to do is get one slightly smaller then the curent fish you have. Then let him grow out with them and be use to them. But be prepaired for a few fights no matter when when it first introduced. The pecjking order of the tank will have to be restablished in the tank after a few days of bickering should be good.

I have a single jag in a 92 gallon all alone. I have to watch my fingers when cleaning the tank, because the impact alone can hurt. Of course, this is an isolated Jag, who flares gills when I approach the tank with my python.

All in all, I wouldn't trade my Jag for anything in the world. I'll link some pics for you tomorrow :).

That would be cool! I have some pics of them in my atlas, but I have no info on them in any of my books, but it seems like those who do have them love them. If I do get one I hope like hell it does not bite! LOL We'd be going on a little drive to the fish store!
