Jaguar Almost Ate My Brand New Shovelnose

I completely understand how you guys feel about quarantine tanks. I'm 25 and still live at home with my parents. Thank God they were ok with me getting this 125, but a second 20~30 gallon tank for fish to live in temporarily? Now that is something I don't think they'd be ok with...

Not to get too personal but I do plan on getting married soon and moving out. When I do, I will 100% have a quarantine tank. I understand the need for it, as a safety precaution, but I simply can't have one in my parents house (for now ;)).

If something were to happen I would do my best to treat the tank obviously. I will say this, I get my fish from reliable stores. I would never buy fish from a store with more than 5 dead fish in a setup up. That's just my rule of thumb. I shop at places with outstanding, knowledgeable employees. Not your typical Petco (which a few in my area are incredible!)...

Granted, that doesn't mean all the fish in the store is healthy. But I trust them. Haven't had an issue yet! #FingersCrossed

I promise you this, the first time you infect your 125 and have to spend a lot of money just to treat with meds which may or may not work and possible lose all or some of your stock you will be more careful with how you add fish. Especially if you have had a good portion of them for lets say a few years. You will never forget that one time you brought something home and wiped your tank out with columnaris.

I killed 45 fish in a tank after introducing a group of schooling fish that turned out to have columnaris. its torture watching your fish / pets dies day after day right in front of you. Horrible deaths too!

I will not be adding fish for awhile now. I hope I'm fine for now. After I move out I'll definitely have a QT

I have a male and female Jag in a 125. They havent spawned yet and the male just hit about 7" maybe... divider up!

In 6 mo. Youll be rehoming 90 percent of those fish, if you dont have 4 other "large" tanks lying around.

90 percent of the fish???? Seems a little ridiculous to me..... What do you think will give me an issue???

Damn, reading through this I was sad to hear you got rid of the Jag before I could tell you the best solution. Buy a new 220. (I realize this may be a tough sell to Mom and Pops, but if your planning on marrying and moving out soon you should be solid.) Make sure when your looking at places with your significant other you mention parts of the house that would look good with your new big tank. That way she/he knows your planning on going full on fish room. If all goes well you'll end up with a big tank, a grow out tank and a quarantine tank. Solomon like solution.

hahahahaha

My gf thinks that I'm crazy with this fish tank... But she tell me that she wants to have a "Fish Tank Room" with 1 giant tank that surrounds the entire room........ Who's the real crazy one??? Lol

I know the Jag has only been gone for about a week now, but I'm happy with my decision. I have a tank that I know can last long term. Slightly overstocked, but I'm on top of my water changes...

Oscar, JD, Pike "Belly Crawler", Firemouth, Geophagus "Red Hump", 2 Hoplo, 4 Silver Dollars, Royal Pleco.

I have 3 Cory Cats that will be rehomed this weekend and a Shovelnose Lima that is in a 10 gallon grow out tank. He's growing already! I heard they grow VERY quickly to 6 inches and then stop. They are slow growers the rest of the way.

I have great filtration and do pretty big WCs twice per week.

Here's a picture of my Shovelnose Lima. It's tail was really torn up but has fully grown back! This guy gets water changes 2-3 times a week and is feed twice per day. I'm not sure if he's grown already or it's just his tail growing back, but he's active now and eating like a pig!

Hoping to have him in the 125 by May 1st. He needs to bulk up!
