Tanks to small for ornatus. I've been looking at the jags and black lancer on raps list.

I really want the 9" blue Botia ray has but he only does airport shipping I'm not confident in that

there are false jags for sale at bluegrass aquatics. oddly enough theyre listed at $0. i guess you just have to pay shipping. thinking of getting one to go with my true jag.

yeah that was my worry with the ornatus. i would really like a shoal of them anyways. maybe when i finally build my big tank...

It'd be nice if they were free but highly unlikely lol likely just a mistake.

And yea I'd say atleast a 180 inevitably because they can be active and get to about 1' with long whiskers as well not to mention they like the company of the same species as you may know

do you keep ornatus? are they finicky like pictus? i have the worst luck with pimelodus. i lost my last 2 pictus a couple weeks ago during a water change. i dont know if it was the temperature change or i hadnt primed the water properly but one minute they were healthy then they both just croaked. ive lost them before in similar manners. never any other fish just them.

No I do not just have read up a lot on them. Similar to their cousins is what you'll find. Was gonna purchase them but decided they couldnt stay with the fish I was keeping at the time. Now I rather keep different species. thebiggerthebetter thebiggerthebetter has some. Don't think he's lost any. I'd say treat them as a skinnier friendlier blochii. Little hardier than picture. Maybe not as active as oictus but more active than blochii. Slim like pictus. It's like a pretty medium lol. Behaves like pictus grows like blochii.

Ray ships FedEx / UPS too. Or he used to.

well he will be sharing the turf with a clown loach and possibly another catfish. maybe a pimelodus ornatus.

ever mixed a pim and a jag?

Agree that the footprint is too small for P. ornatus. I've mixed most things. Your pictus experience is a strange one out. They are hardy little guys. If they croaked like that, something was seriously wrong. My Achilles heel is jaguar catfish, oddly and ironically.

I tried to get a gold wolf from him before I got mine and he didn't. I've had the wolf for atleast a year now. Maybe I'll reach out and see if he's doing that again.

And what do you mean by Achilles heel? Like you don't have luck with them?

Ray used to not. Then he did. So I am not sure.

Yes, something always happens to jaguar catfish in my "care".

Gotcha and when was the last time you heard of him shipping with FedEx etc? Do you know? Had to bring my black wolf to the lfs unfortunately he became real aggro decided the tank was to small killed two fish and beat the odoe and gold to a pulp almost sure they would've died next. Only ones he didn't bother were the cats. He was my favorite but i do like my cats and gold wolf a lot and have some love for my odoe as well, so it was him or them and I'm not much for single specimen tank. Kinda lost some interest in my tank been a little sad to look at it without him swimming around and flaring at me. Contemplated quitting the hobby for the first time. So now with semi aggressive fish that don't get to big I can get some more fish possibly. Wanted to try and grow out another ery maybe both sp Peru and erythrinus, think the gold will keep them in check and the odoe will keep him in check. Contemplated rehoming the odoe as well but I think she may be needed to keep the gold in line. I actually have videos of my sp Peru trying to challenge the odoe and gold was funny he's much smaller. So was thinking of getting one of them maybe both, maybe more jags, maybe the botia, maybe the black lancer. Not really sure. Those are the few fish that catch my eye at this moment. The gold wolf and Trachy are what limit me. The odoe is friendly jag as well. Trachy I worry may eat someone, gold wolf is a killer if the other fish lets him be. Blue botia I know are fairly aggro. So they'd work most likely. The jags will work most likely as I had no issue introducing the first one. The lancer is big enough but you say they're so sensitive and you take better care of your fish than me, definitly put more effort. I like to keep it simple. The wolves I'd have to grow out for sure. Not sure where I'm gonna go with it. Need to do something though. I need another personable fish I think. Don't really like cichlids. Only jaguar cichlid and argentea. Gold wolf ate half of my last jag cichlid I tried raising. A lot of thinking of what I'm willing to risk.

You willward derailer :) This should be in its own thread with its own title! (Good thing nobody asked me though.)

*********Within a year if memory serves. Ray said his volume wasn't enough to sustain his airport-to-airport shipping account ... or maybe it was vice versa, he couldn't do air to air.

***********It seems you purposefully create fragile, barely balanced "survive if you can" communities, no? If so, there is nothing unexpected with all this black wolf stuff but what is unexpected to me is that you'd be so bummed (with your own approach to MFK-ing). No?

Guess I will have to look into that.

And you may be right. My stock is often of fish that will likely not get along. I happen to get away with it for awhile. Trying to keep my favorites. But eventually things go down hill. Trying to step away from that now. So I'm looking at smaller less aggressive species that interest me. As of now the Trachy is the fish with the biggest growth potential and will remain that way. Gold can be a jerk but isn't doing so to anyone in the tank. He's my main worry with introducing anyone.im created more hides with the dw so when the time comes things will be fine. Think I'm gonna pass with the lancer idea all together. Will reach out to ray for the botia when I am ready. Will reach out to rapps for two more jags as well. See how things go. Then maybe add the smaller species of wolves. I wanna get them again and see if it was just the specimen I had but he was always laying around in a smaller tank. Once in the 120 he acted exactly like my gold wolf which is unlike the species so that's something I wanna make a thread of.

To the OP I apologize and will go no further
