Jaguar Cichlid Gender? (Parachromis managuensis)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
will the fighting stop, or will i have to take the Oscar back to PS and be happy with one cichlid..? I tried to get another Jag, but all the Jags would have easily been fish food for the one i have now...

Never mind guys, too late now... the oscar is already on its side, like the last... why cant i do **** right? i read that jags and oscars got along just fine... what went wrong? i reorganised the tan so there was no territorial problems, etc...

How can i out him out of his missery? i dont like seeing him laying on his side struggling to breath...

Oscars have been known to lounge around or lay on their side when stressed. I'd give it a couple of days if you're adamant on keeping an O. But regardless, the Jag will likely kill the Oscar eventually unless you plan on placing them in a mammoth tank.

Os are really moody and sulk on the floor alot, i wouldnt count him out just yet. jags are a lot more aggressive than Os though so not sure if it will work long term but i think once they are in the bigger tank you shouldnt really have an issue, i personally would divide the tank until you have the big one set up for them, jags are really territorial so even when babies they tend to claim small tanks even though it looks like they have tons of room so he may beat the O up in the small tank but in the big tank they may not have any issues at all, fish are weird like that

Did I miss the tank size? A Jag and an Oscar will require about 150 gals to live together fully grown. In a community setup a female Jag would be the better choice. Jags are more terratorial as opposed to all out aggressive, being classic ambush preditors they stake out an area waiting for somthing to swim past them and then striking violently and inflicting sever damage. Great fish and beautiful if properly housed and cared for, big males without enough space may not tolerate tankmates.

I found an old glass vase and put him in it... i have a airator, and the room, temp is usually around 76-78, so hes should be good... if i put him in a 10-20 g tank for now, will he be fine? the vase hes in now is very small...

The vase sounds like a really poor idea. A 10-20g tank will work for now, but not long. Oscars grow pretty quickly.

the vase was all i could think of at the moment, i had to think fast or he woulda died... i have no money for a tank yet. how long do you think he can survive in the vase? i can find a large bowl to put him in, if thatll change anything... I get money on the 31st, will it last that long, or should i take him back to petsmart tomorrow?

The air is circulating, the temp is 79 f, and he has room to move, i think he should be ok for a few days, no?

My neighbor has a 10g tank, but it needs new silicone... its really old... maybe i can fix it up and put him in there?
