Hi im getting a couple jaguar cichlids i plan on keeping them in a 55 gal for now and then getting a bigger tank when the times right.

How long do you say it will be before my fish will outgrow this tank? What size tank will I eventually need because I've been reading around and I've read the minimum is 80 gal but some say minimum should be no less then 100-120 so I'm a little confused

if they are juvies 1.5"-5" you can get away with it for a few months but i would get that 120-180soon. once they hit maturity around 4-5" they tend to spawn and spawn regularly like clockwork monthly.

they will need atleast a 135 or a 150 gallon tank for life

at an 1.5 inches your along way away from needing a 180, a 55 will work for a bit but upgrade as you can , remember there are alot of people on here keeping some big ole fh's in some teeeny weeny tanks... you know who you are
try and scare this guy off of jags, here is my advice ... take it or leave it
Jags are some sweet fish ..... i dont know at 1.5" how your supposed to tell a pair or not but they grow pretty fast so upgrade as soon as you can but to be honest , 1.5" fish in a 180 gallon is retarded grow em out in your smaller tank save your duckets, upgrade your filtration first grab some big canisters when they come up used and pic up a tank when it is responsible to do so,
that being said if your "that" guy who is housing a 12 inch jag in a 55 your a dillweed anyways and your fish are doomed...

use common sence , dont go above your means ... but dont be a dillweed....
remember big fish big tank....good filtration , water quality is key, followed by good quality food,

150+. 100g did not work for my 9in male, and he still had some growing to do. The bigger the better, but for a quality life for a jag, he needs a 150+ minimum. Remember they get 12in+
