lol your fine will take two years to even grow out of that 55.
Look at fins usually males have pointed ones and females rounded, but likes others said might have to let them grow a bit
finally someone who genuinely answered my question lol thanks I appreciate it

With good filtration it'll grow to around 10" give or take 2" so yes that would be overstocked inside of a 55.

did i read that right? 2 years before a male jag grows out of a 55g?

that's about how I'd see it, give or take, depending on temps, food intake, frequency of WCs, types of foods, stress levels, if they breed , etc.....I would consider all those as variables. Mine are growing slowly and the ones I had 4 years ago were still only 11-12" at 3 years old when I sold them.

jags will grow out faster than you guys figure they will. Not only do they need the space it will stunt their true potential and will be more susceptible to illnesses. Yes they can grow out in a 55 until max 6 inches but they need the room to swim . after the 6 inch mark they will get stunted and ive seen it on numerous occasions. I'm trying not to create this thread into negativity and btw those are nice little fry you have but I am as a jag lover ( they act just like puppies ) don't like seeing them not reach their true potential. Ive had mine for 7 years now. she is the queen of the tank and I will never get rid of her as long as I live.

I have a little F1 male from my WC pair in the 180,. he is about 5 months old and about 4" now, I have no dowt that at a year he is going to be a good 8 to 9" .
