I have seen both of these fish and they are both so beautiful, I want them both, but if I cannot have them both, I need to pick. Right now I am leaning toward a Jag.

I read different minimum tank requirements on different sites, so based on anyone's experience, which minimum tank size would someone who has (had) these fish recommend?

If I am able to keep both what is the minimum tank size with massive over filtration?

I am very excited about massive over filtration :-)

cheers,

J

Absolute minimums...

Jag male-125g
Dovii male-180g

These are what I consider absolute minimums with a single speciman. Personally, I'd want 180g for a proper male jag home and a 240g for a proper male dovii home.

For what its worth, get the tank first and then the fish. The best laid plans, etc...

i truly understand your delimma here i have always had jags and just recently started reading up on the doviis now i have my heart set on that being my next new addition once i get some space. i truly dont think you could go wrong with either one of them though.

I know they can get very big :-/

They are both lovely fish.

Here is why I asked before I bought:

I am about to have a free 90 gallon to put in my bedroom, and I want to pick a large cichlid that is beautiful and aggressive that I can put in there, even if it is just for one fish. I like large aggressive cichlids. And given what I already have in my main tank, I want something different.

I already have oscars, flowerhorn, blood parrot. What can I put in the bedroom that is a large aggressive cichlid but will be happy in a 90?

Ideas?

Also, use the search on here to find answers or more info on stuff as well. This place is a plethora of info and the search will save you from having to ask the same questions that have been asked tons.

A 90g would make an awesome home for life for a single or pair of grammodes. Grammodes are slow growers, but every bit as nice as jags or dovii. They are sometimes called "mini dovii".

Just looked up those Grammodes man they are nice looking. I would not mind having one of those. I think this may be a good pick for that 90gal. It looks like jeff rapps sells them too.
