Jaguar & Mono Bass

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A divided tank is your only VERY temporary option. The tank is far too small for either fish to live in for a long time together or alone. I understand that you didn't foresee your tank leaking but keeping these two together won't work long. Unless you can quickly provide a large tank for these fish, you may need to find some other places to keep them until then. Perhaps a LFS can keep at least one of them for you until you can solve your tank issues. Jags are very territorial and will take on anything that evades what they perceive as their space. Your P bass is on borrowed time. I honestly wouldn't keep them together unless I was prepared to provide a very large tank to compensate for their adult sizes, the Jags need for a territory, and a clear swimming area for them both. Take the advice given and find the best answer for your problem. Getting upset about what other members suggest won't help you much with your problem.

No one is trying to be mean but it is the true your tank is way to small for both even if you take one out it is still gonna be to small. You will either like others have said is buy a bigger tank or see if someone can help ya with it and take one in for the time being and work on getten another tank

First
both of those fish are to big for that tank since a jag get's up to 14 inches and the pbass will get to 31 inches.
but if you are willing to buy a larger tank for them then for now it should be fine.
Now you must pick your favorite fish to keep because one needs to go and you shouldn't get a divider because
it will make your tank even smaller.
Jags are extremely territorial so he will probably try to kill the pbass because the jag thinks the whole tank is his.

The Managuense may be too territorial for your setup. I have a Festae with a Temensis and a Mono. Combination has had little problem for years.

Tank size is fine for now but it will be an issue but you already said you understood that and that the tank size was only temporary so I don't know why everyones getting there panties in a bunch about it.... That being said Jaguars can be SUPER aggressive towards cichla and it may be hard to get them to comm in the space that you have as of now. Get a tank devider for right now. try not to feed live food as that can increase aggression/lower temp slightly and yes tank out the jag temporarily and rearrange the decorum in the tank... In the future I'd look for something along the lines of at least 5x2x2 and thats an absolute minimum. Good luck with your fish and I hope my advice helped a bit(:

has anyone let you know your tank is too small. anyway some don't realize that bad advice given with a respectful tone is sometimes taken over great advice in a condescending tone, but that's people for you, I see no way to keep anything with your jag.

Alright SO I rearranged the tank.... let the jag live in a heated bucket with a small filter on it for 2 days.. added 2 large gourami. Turned down the temp and then added the jaguar into the tank.

Seems to have taken the heat off of the p-bass for now. I am moving and REALLY really do not want to set up a yet another tank, have 4 tanks to tear down and move to new house. So worst case scenario if the violence pcisk up again I will go buy another tank to seperate. I have one more question though, I am going to do a DIY plywood tank in the wall in my new basement. Dimensions are going to be 10x4x2 very minimul decor my question is with a tank this size do you think there will still be problems??? or will the added space give the jaguar his own territory??
