Jaguar vs. dempsey

just my two cents salty but single fish tanks always get boring in my experiance done it , I derive much pleasure from keeping smaller more exotic fish in smaller tanks and the waste is easier to take care of ...

yea, I agree totally. Its just that I have this 65 g. with a jd, salvini, a pleco, and like 5 convicts already. I like all 3 different species, convicts, salvini, and dempsey. I've always wanted a salvini only tank 90 g., A jag tank 90- 120g., and a jd tank as well. I just figured I'm getting this 45 g. high, n I might as well make use of it. I figured that 1 jd might work in it, so i'm going for it, but I agree 1 single fish per tank is rather boring too. My jd is small but he's growing fast, he's about 4" and has lots of color already. I would like to have some kind of backround fish not to many, like 2-3, 3" fish.

maybe cichlid, maybe not. Any ideas? I have spare cons, 2 pink cons actually have babies in the 65 right now. I dont know if they will survive though, I'ts like there 5th attempt. although before I was running 1 aqu.clear 70, now I'm running 2, so the water is a little better, so hopefully all will work out this time. Cons just breed so easily, n I dont wont the jd to feel threatened. any Ideas would be helpful, just some kind of backround so the jd won't get bored?

i have a 5 inch male jack dempsey a 4 inch female jack dempsey and a male+female tinfoil barbs about 5 inches each and they coexist all together in my 50 gallon acrylic tank and sometimes the male jd will chase the barbs around its a terrortorial thing. one fish by it self is cruel. at least get a pair of whatever just make sure male and female

have a big male jag he is very smart they say top 3 in smartest fish he will come after me to protect his female rd but he know ill **** him up so he dont try it have 3 jd there cool but wimps can be badd againt's a convict but they dont get big enough my jag would crush my pair and they arent lil either if u only get one cichlid at least get a pleco loaches u will get bored my texas was a cool fish he would work out pick up big rocks and swim back and forth lmao

Denny, I just bought 3 little (1.5") Red Jags. there so cute. nice color already too. I have them in my nano with the baby sajica(he was getting beat) and now the sajicas chasin them all around in circles. its funny looking.

siesta sky, what are the measurements of your 220 g.? cuz that is huge . The biggest I've seen is 125 g. I cant imagine a 220!

before there was a thread, umbee vs jags,
http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10512&page=4&pp=10

now its Jd vs Jags. love my jag, i have a jd as well but my vote goes to jag.

personality will differ from individual fish, you wont always get a dominating jag and same goes with JD. i think it all comes down to conditioning of the fish as it grows. male jags gets larger than JD. so size and patterns gets my pick.

siesta, finally picked up some jags i see. post some pics.

I have no personal experience with the jags, but my JD was a cool fish. He ended up being the only fish in his tank. He interacted with me every time I came near. Cleaning his tank became a challenge since he thought my hand was invading his territory. I would go with the Jack.
