I think if a red devil was called a pink angel, people would'nt care as much.

Make sure you post some pics of your JD once you get him, so we can all watch his development. Us JD fans are like the last of the dinosaurs, we gotta stick together!

I dunno...Jack dempseys are really appealing to the beginner hobbyist...so many beginner keepers really like them. Just the experienced people dont...kinda like Oscars I guess.

They sure appealed to me back then...I was like 8 years old and I only raised convicts. :D So I bought one and it was my favorite fish! Those rowdy convicts were always messing with it and getting beat up.

Here's more pics for our enjoyment...CichlidAddict's JD and Jag again!!!!!! Oh yeah!!! :woot: :woot: :woot:

great pics! I wonder what size tank their in? and what size they they are , its hard to tell they look to be like 8" or so. jags def. look like they just want to rumble , where as jacks seem like they just want to be left alone.

The owner said it was a 125 gallon. The Jack lived and grew up in there alone until the Jag was introduced. He also said the JD was a brute! They had that battle until territory was established.

I have both Jag and Dempsey. The Dempsey gets picked on by the Jag who is the top fishy of my tank. I think it all depends on your personal preference and how large your set-up is. If you like cool colors then go with the Dempsey (personally I find Dempseys are more interactive with their owners), and if you like metalic colors then go with the Jag (I enjoy watching my Jag eat, because he has a real attitude.)

I think they are both the same as far as (out in the open fish) are concerned, i've found jd's and jags, come out in the open, and hide just as much . I, myself have seen no difference in the two. Jags are, in my opinion just more territorial, and like to bully other fish. They are more of a brawler, that's all. Both are very hardy, solid decent looking fish, but its hard to tell if either are actually interactive with their owners or just hungry. I've had both in the same sized tank, at different times, and i've noticed myself, that the jack was more an out in the open swimmer, and the jag was much more to himself, hiding just waiting for food to come to make a move. unless, of course if other fish were present, then he would make it known that he was king and would not let them make a move.
