the 30 gallon is a growout for my small 1-2 inch fish once all the fish are at least 3 inch they are going straight to the 180 g, but i thought i could leave them just the festae and a couple jags in the 30 g until about 4 inch to see if i can get a bonded pair since they will see eachothe rmore often then instead of being so spread out in the 180 g you get it
Good luck I think the combo is sweet. One day I will try this myself. I think you should focus on the festae 1st they are less common and grow slower than jags which are pretty easy to come across
well i have a breeding pair of 12 inch jags so for now i can raise the festae to 4 inch and i always have a crap load of different size jags so thats no problem, so for now ima let the festae grow , and at what size should i introduce the jags
This isn't going to be con_specific fish your growing out to pair. I would say grow each group in separate species tanks till they hit maturity which is around 4.5" then pull whichever desired male or female from the other groups and work a divider. Otherwise grow the jags and festae out in the 180 till you see a pair then pull that pair and put in the 60 or something and keep going with where in the 180 till u succeed
okay ima try this project in different ways
way number 1 is grow them out then put a pair in a 50 g breeder with a divider then if they get along take off the divider and hope for the best,
second way is to growout the festae till about 4.5 inches then add some jags that are 4 inches and hope for a pair that way
third way is to let some in the 180 g and see what happens
so ima try all three of these ways and im still going to get 3 wild caught 4 icnh festae but ima get 1 pure festae pair then the leftover fish will also go to my project so hopefully with all these fish 1 pair will form, and what do you think an asking price for fry should be that are 1 inch
I hope that you can pull it off too. and if you do then you will have to grow some out before to see how theyll look before setting the final price on them, but n the mean time you can still sell the offspring to a few friends that can help growthem out so you can see what you have. and im not sure on price for an inch. I do know itll be the cheapest way to buy a large group but untill you have proof of the outcome then most people might wait till theyre 3" or so. But either way i know ill get some and grow them out myself
And your idea sounds good the more options the better, its just too bad you cant get more festae to increase your odds.
how much festae do i need because i currently have 3 , then im getting 3 wild caughts but only 1 of the wild caughts is going to the project so thats 4, and i could get some more from my lfs , should i have a group of 10 festae
Festae are hard to keep alive I think you will be fine with 6 you will probably end up with 1 or 2 of them regardless of how many you start with unless you divide all of them.
