Despite what I read, I've never had a jaguar that was a killer, and I've had a lot of them. They have always held their own and often been the most dominant fish in the tank. I've found them to be a great "balance" fish for a cichlid tank, keeping aggression from others in check.

I just got this 14 inch beast and he has been exactly that. He is peaceful and getting along great with everyone in my 180. What have your experiences been?

nice pick-up Mr. Principal :D Is he REALLY 14"?????

yea, I am one of those people who agree whole-heartedly about Jags aggression being overrated ....it's one out of several hundreds that turns psychotic. I have kept breeding pairs w/ other cichlids without any problems. They just stake their territory - my pair only claimed about 1/5 of the tank - and they were fine w/ my harem of JDs, Convicts, Flowerhorns, Firemouths, Jewels, and several large Catfish, etc

now the Motaguensis.......lol.....that's a whole different story

14 inches is my estimate. It's a 6 ft tank so you get an idea from the full tank pic. He may be a little under or a little over. He's big.

24 inches
yea, ok see that's what I want....I just got a 125g, but I think a 24" width would be better than the 18", it's just it costs like double what they want for a 125g.....my LFS - a Ma-and-Pa shop priced a 180 for me at $760, JUST for the tank, no accessories

I have a 125 as well. The 180 is more spendy. I paid $1200 for mine with glass tops, stand, tank, lights, and sump. My 125 was 1/2 that.

That's an awesome looking jag right there.

Anazing jag OP! I agree on jag aggression or lack of. A lot of cichlids are coined "aggressive", but IME it comes down to individual fish and tank size.
I feel this way about salvini. People always say they are really aggressive and hide all the time. I've had 6 (4 female, 2 males), and not one was aggressive or hid all the time.
