Fishdance - I am just curious about your comment that fish do not have the same rights as humans... I do not wish to open a huge debate, but I am curious about that statement.

i think everyone have their own opinion on these yet these Japanese style tanks have fishes that thrive in them. Mind you that these tanks have about 30-40K in them with the aros and dats in them so i think they would know what they are doing

what Fishdance is hinting at ( correct me if I am wrong, please, Fishdance ) is that under the law in most of the countries, animals are THINGS, as in PROPERTY, and as such can be treated how the owner sees fit.

This is changing however, due to the rise of new perceptions and conscience, thank God.

i totally agree with you, i hate it when people say ur tank is over stocked. but then they see a japanese aquarium with twice the amount of fish and they say its amazing, totally not cool

wow santoury, i never would have guessed. you keeping so many HUGE lungfish, nothing over 100 gallons? and no filters? amazing!

Hey X24 - most of them are still babies, per se... no need for HUGE tanks yet :)
And it's really easy when changing water every other day :) The main reason being, they don't need aeration.

But again, they're all by themselves, so no problem with overstocking LOL

I really think the whole "we can't give em' the space they have in the wild,so we might as well just stuff em' like sardines" mentality is somewhat of a cop out.

I can't give my fish anywhere near the personal space that they have in the wild, however I try pretty hard with the 250 gallons that I have,my fish certainly are never bumping into one another as they try to maneuver through the swarming masses.

good point as far as there being 40-50K worth of fish in some of these "Japanese-style" setups,It does imply that they know their way around a sump and a wet/dry to be keeping the fish alive, but not necessarily that they "know what they are doing",I think if they truly and fully knew what they where doing than they would thin out their stocklist a bit so spectators of the tank can view the fish in almost natural behavior. No it seems that instead it's just a power trip for those people, something to show off."How much money worth of fish can I stuff in one tank?".For some people Its like their Bling Bling or something.

Senor does have a point about people flaunting their money around, but not only Asians ....

You yourself suggested, Senor, that people should try to discus this issue without heat and flaming etc..

We were discussing different approaches to fish maintenance, different forms of seeing and dealing with the hobby.

Now, unfortunately, we already are using arguments that have absolutely nothing to do with the discussion you proposed, about moneym, about showing off, about power trips....

:(
