Japan's Dolphin Hunters

Did it mention what species of dolphin it was? I found these population numbers, not sure how accurate it is.

Various dolphin species are abundant in the North Pacific, examples of population estimates are: the common dolphin at 3,179,000, the striped dolphin at 1,485,000, the spotted dolphin at 1,782,000 and the spinner dolphin at 1,582,000

When you look at these numbers 20k really isnt anything thats going to drive them to extinction in the next few years. I think the main problem people have with the dolphin killing is how brutal it is, kinda like clubbing baby seals.

Made me hungry!

I think there could be a better way to kill them, but it is no better or worse then slaughter houses here in the U.S. or any other country.

Did you find numbers on their reproduction rates per year, and deaths by natural causes per year. Those numbers might seem big, but thats likely the total population, including juveniles and adolescents. If you are pulling 20,000 healthy sexually mature dophins out of the breeding population its going to have an effect that is likely to be measurable in the immediate future

i don't see what's wrong. it's their way of life. they didn't kill for pleasure. is it any worse than going bear hunting? do you eat the bear?

Yes, but a group doesn't kill a ton of bears all at one time. There is a difference between regulated hunting and slaugtering.
