Jardini Community, Yah or Nah

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't think I'll try until I have a tank with a bigger footprint, maybe something like 12x4. But I will try one day, if everyone just didn't try cause someone else failed where would that put the human race. In a couple of years when I have my own place and room for a real Monster tank I will try, but for now I will just dream.

Thanks everyone, Nova 8

After getting my first ever Jardini, I want more. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with Jardini communities, I know they are intollerant of other fish in their tank. But if i had say, six orso, would the higher number spread out aggression to the point that they will coincide with each other, has anyone tried this in the past. What about multiple Jars with other fish in the tank?
What I've been thinking is try putting 6 in my 6'x2'wx2.5'h and raise them until they are about 14" and if they still "get along" get a 10'x3'wx2.5'h, if not a LFS said he will take them all off my hands.
So what do you guys think, Try it and find out, or it will be a tragic failure.

amoung all the aros, jardini is one of the most agro,so it wouldnt be very wise to comm 6 of them together, chances are they will fight till they die

In brissy i've seen a couple around 4-5" for $120-$150 but usually at most pet shops here they go for more like $180-220.

how much they go for down there?

For an 8" jar it will cost $140, 4" range from around $70-$90 depending on the store and Leichardti (the only one I've seen) is 4.5" for $95. I'll get them a bit cheaper from Gawler Aquariums and they'll order the Jars in at the size I want.

In melbourne 4" to 6" jardini around $70 and leichardti around $40ish
but we do have the rip off aquariums that sell them for much more than these prices.
im suprised brissy sells it for that much up there! have you tried going to the fish farms up there(thats where they are breeding them, niiice and warm climate up there). i remember getting 4 jars for $100 at a farm in brisbane awhile ago.

:jaw: Seriously, Leichardti's are only $40 for a 4"-6" fish, I should go for a drive, I can't believe you pay less for leis then you do for Jars :screwy:, Jars cost less here as they are more comman.

Maybe you should say Melbourne.LOL.We live in Aussie land to and that's not what I've seen.
I was thinking the same thing, but decided not to comment, he even said that your from brissy - unless he thinks Vic=Aus :grinno:

I think it's freaking weird that you guys pay more for jars in it's own home land then we do here in the Us!!! you can get them here for 40-75 for a 6" fish depending on the coloration. (the darker golden/green ones seem to be more expensive then the lighter silvery ones...) If I lived there I'd just go for a ride to where ever you know they live and go fishing!!! I've heard they're fairly abundant and a great fight!! Australia isn't that big... go for a road trip if you have to hahaha Miguel drove from Portugal to the UK and back to pick up an Asian Aro!
