I have a new Jardini about one month(6 inches). He is still very skitish and darts into side of tank when I walk past or to close to tank. He is alone in 55 at this time. Is this normal or will he out grow behavior?
He is taking mealworms and starting hikari sticks but spits out.
Thanks!

i have a situation almost exactly like yours- except mine is a 7 incher already(jardini)... yup 55g as well...
really shy... darting and skitish... seriously unlike what i saw on youtube... mayb mine is a softy lol... :D
after mine tasted mealworms he refuse to take MP stuffed with hikari stick which use to be his diet before...
i have gave up on trying.. so my new plan is to let him hit the 10'' mark before i starve him into submission...
really wondering will he get less skittish as he grows bigger... :irked:

I believe its normal and they should grow out of it. Also where is your tank? I've read that is u have your tank in a face pace area it helps them grow out of it sooner. I have a silver one in my living room and he's a lot less skittish than the one I have in my dinning room. The one I have in my bedroom is the biggest and he hardly gets scare and we spend most of our time there so the theory seems to be true.

Also what might help is if you put a bit of floating plants in your tank. I did that with the silver in my living room and he just casually swim and hide under it if he's scare. He Really doesn't dart and I feel Better about him not injuring himself

Thanks guy's! Nice to hear that mine is not the only one acting this way... He seemed fine at the fish store...Yes , youtube is full of confident Jardini... I did have goodluck today. I did not attemp to feed for two days and he took food stick immediately!!! seemed still hungy so I gave him a mealworm and again took.
The tanks is in my office with less traffic. I am installing 240 that will be in living room...more traffic...I will add floating plants.
What ph do you guys keep? I find various ranges on the internet etc... My water is hard out of tap. I use peat granules to attempt to soften? Thougts?
Thanks again!

Mine does fine in 7.5 I don't think Ph is as important as the nirate and such but 6.5 or 7 should be perfect

Lesson learned...sad day! My Jardini had started eating Food sticks like a monster...returned home last night he was dead on the floor! jumped out a 2" by 10" slot on the top rear of the tank. That ares is where the canister inlet and outlet enter tank. I feel like crap.

Go buy another one and make sure you cover everything! I have inch thick acrylic for covers with 10lbs weights just in case.
