so why dont you dump a red ear slider in acidic, cold water?

This tank isn't full of acidic, cold water. It actually looks quite nice for a turtle. Thats an exaggeration of what i said anyways. But sure the water can be cold depending on the species as long as they have a place to get out and bask. They don't have two different requirements...any water a jar can survive in a turtle can.

Why risk serious damge to both species?

I don't see a way the jar could seriously injure those turtles...but i get what you mean. ;)

Compared to fish? No
You are reading into what i said too much beyond what i was responding too. Sure turtles probably cant survive in sewage water, or extremely cold water, or hot etc. But when it comes to ph or kh or ammonia/nitrite/nitrate its not going to matter. But i responded to someone saying "they have different water requirements." Which they do not, i'm sure most turts would be quite comfortable in any water a jar is.

it could easily pull off the turtles tail, give it some serious bites on the softer parts of the body like the legs.
and it moves much faster than the turtle.
