My jardini has a bad case of black spots disease. there were even more black spots on its body but I pulled the scales that they were on off. this doesn't do much because the parasite is from within the insides and the black spots can even move throughout the entire body. it now even has black spots inside the mouth. and yes, i did open the mouth to double check.
i feel terrible because this was all my fault. let this be a lesson to eveyone:do not EVER feed minnows from bait shops to your fish!! its not that i fed them to the fish right away, i quarantined them for a month but what i didn't know was that black spots disease last forever on a fish(I'm talking YEARS)!!

This jardini is one tough fish, may be the toughest fish that I ever had. It also has fin rot and there was one to two black spots on the tail. I had already treated it twice with Melafix but the tail just got worst. Maybe because I took it out and put it in a 20 gallon and stressed it out too much!? I raised the temperate to 82 degress and added salt too. I also did try to treat the black spots with Ocean Free's product called" 'O' Arowana Disease, but that was just a waste of money.

Through all of this, this fish was acting like a normal fish - eats like there's no tomorrow and always very active, even more than the silver and black/blue. What do you guys think I should try next to cure the fin rot?? The black spots will go away but may takes years. The fish is now back in its 225 gallon with very clean water(using one FX5), and VERY surprisingly: It now eats pellets, and lots and lots of it. Strange because before it wouldn't even touch them.

so what exactly is this "black spot disease" that made you feel you should pull scales off your fish and pry it's mouth open?

Dont know about the black spot disease.

Its looks like more like damage fins than fin rot.

Just add some salt and increase the temperature to 30 deg C.

I had a chance to open the mouth when I did a tank transfer. I just wanted to see how bad it was. And its pretty bad, there are even black spots on the tongue and all around the inside of the mouth. As for the scales I wanted to see if the parasite/egg was under there, but I found nothing. On minnows, there is actually a round and white what seems like a egg or something, but I didn't find any of it on my fish. Strange....

Both thermometers on two long ends of my tank always read 86 F degrees and that's where I'd prefer the temp to be. It's because I mostly use salt and high temp to treat any parasite issues in my tanks. Jardini is a very strong fish, and I think yours will get through this. Just start adding salt to your frequent water changes, and raise the temp a bit. Good luck.

And hey, congrats on the pellets. Mine still wouldn't even look at them!

hey, thanks. i'll give the 86 degree temperature a try and i will add some salt as well. Yeah, jardinis are Very tough fish, not to mention Fun to feed and watch.

The black spot disease is not that serious, it will be gone after a while(even without treatment) but what serious is that you pull your fish scale off.

i only pulled 3 scales off. come on. and they grew back in a week. its not like I took off the entire side of the fish. i just wanted to see if there was anything under there.
i don't think it has fin rot. it must be something else.
i'm just setting the temp to 86 degrees, adding salt, and keeping the water clean.

errr, the LAST thing you want to do is pull of scales...they're there for a reason you know...Does your jar also have fin rot? That's one messed up looking jar.

I know, but it will heal. it's a tough fish. How tough are your damn asians, anyway??????
