Jauguar cichlid and a Piranha

Jag will definitely kill piranha...piranhas are cowards. I have 4, 5 inch rbps last year, placed a pair of 3inch breeding convicts. Guess what...the piranhas were in the corner while the convicts roamed with impunity..Piranhas=overrated..

Thats a jags skull. Jags get bigger than 20" and grow pretty fast. I have a jag and have had him since maybe august? It was a fry, it fit in a little 1 ounce paper dixie cup without touching both sides. Now he is about 8-9 inches.

I think they can be mean, but not as mean as say a red devil or something. Either way its a death in either fish.

Jag's get big but not 20", i've heard tell of a few 15-16" but not 20. The only Parachromis that gets that big is Dovii. I do however think a Jag would own Red Bellies if he/she was not thrown in the tank when the piranhas are very hungry. Given the chance to acclimate for a day or 2 with a divider in the tank the Jag would cause some problems for the piranha(s)

My old shoal OWNED This con

This isn't about a shoal versus a single smaller convict. It's about a single piranha versus a much larger cichlid. The Jag would either let him be and they would live in peace, or the jag would pick him to death.

well not in my case, my Black P is very territorial he attacks his own reflection. When the lights go out all the other fish hide. Buddy comes out in force..lol. He's only 6" and swims around like he's all grown up...funny.

RBPs are a schooling fish, why on earth would you keep as a pair. Two months is a very short time to draw a conclusion on whether a pair will work. Why not state size of fish and tank also? It is very unlikely anyone would have success keeping two adult or sub adult RBPs.

Yeah you need at least 4 natteri(red bellies) for them to do the natural schooling thing. I had 2 yrs. ago when 1 got 2" bigger then the other he simply ate it. When placed with 2 his size they did fine. natteri are the only piranhas that cichlids have a chnace against 1 on 1. Piranhas are naturaly designed to slice as they bite. cichlids are grab & hold the 2 different styles will favor piranhas when the cichlid will have to make several attempts to equal the same effects of 1 bite from the piranha. however natteri (in solo situations) on average have less aggression/defense response of other piranhas.
