you shouldn't bury the rhizome in the substrate if you don't want it on wood what you could do is get a small rock and tie it to that then it is portable as well so you can move it all around and the roots hide the rock
 
got the 10g setup this weekend, but its not planted yet. those are just some fake plants for now. i think im gonna add just some anubias nana petite and java moss since the tank is so small.

what do you guys think? anything i should change with the aquascaping? i wanna change out the white rocks with something a little darker as soon as i find them...

I have an anubias nanas plant just planted in the substrate and it seems to be doing good.

Just switch out those rocks for something darker like you were saying and get it planted and it should be good. Already looks awesome. I really like that wood...

Ok, here's the long awaited pics!!! lol sorry to keep you guys waiting but i forgot all about this tank :) its got some java fern, anubias nana, anubias nana petite, and some unknown stem that i got free when i bought a few plants. for fish, i added three Buenos Aires Tetras. what do you guys think?
