JDM'ers what is your water change schedule like?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
For a 100%, what actually happens is basically two 90% changes back to back. The water is dropped down to the height of the tallest fish, refilled, then changed again.

i wouldnt think doin anythin more than 30-40% would be good
you could never do 100% you would have to leave water to cover gravel an decor and im guessing you would move your fish to a bucket, which is really stressful on its own. it just seems really usless and way too much hassel to do more than 40 %
if the parameters of the old water and the new water match, then there are no ill effects on the beneficial bacteria or the fish. it's no secret that discuss breeders do massive, even 100% water changes everyday with the fish almost flopping on their sides while theyre changing out the water.

thats crazy

haha well this thread kind of got messed up...i understand water chemistry very well and my tank is overly filtered (50 gallon sump over 1000gph and 2 fx5's on a 240) I know jdm tanks are heavily filtered but i was wondering how often and how much jdm'ers do for water changes. I mean if you even do 70% most jdm tanks that ive seen would not have enough water for the fish to swim in while doing the changes haha. Im thinking about trying a lightly stocked jdm. thats why im asking.....kurare youre wasting your time doing those small changes.

My tank isnt even close to packed but I still do about 70% once a week. Just wondering how you guys deal with the bio load. thanks.

I usually do 40%-50% once or twice a week, depending on how hectic things get..

Its much better to indivually house fish to watch them and let them show personality. Then to stuff them in a tank and they become bland and none are aloud to be how they naturally would be cause they get **** on every way they turn. I think its more of an ego trip than anything, but what ever floats your boat.
