I was about 6 months ago and my girlfriend wanted to go to the aquarium. I didnt feel like spending the money or driving 2 hours to the aquarium so I told her I would buy her a fish. At this point I had no fishtanks and had no interest in maintaining one. I was essentially thinking I'd just get a bowl with a betta in it. Well then I found a 10 gallon, a filter, lids, lights, and heater in my basement from back when I used to have fish. Well needless to say, I went out and bought some filter media, some substrate(crushed coral lol), and some fish. Filled the tank up and went out to buy fish about 2 hours later. To stock this TEN gallon I bought a baby oscar, blood parrot, and a blue lobster. No tests, no plans for upgrading, this was to be her tank, she was supposed to take care of it and I was to do nothing(execpt be the one to buy the food and pay for everything of course). Well needless to say I loved these fish. The lobster was my favorite and he died within about 2 weeks. That is when I started to research things. I spent about 4 or 5 hours a day on fish websites, forums, etc and now I'm a fanatic. Somehow the oscar and parrot are still alive and survived my negligence. They are currently in a 60 gallon with my RTC and dragon goby. I have since taken over this tank and given my girlfriend a 7 gallon bowfront in which she has 2 bettas in hopes that they will "scrump" as she puts it. Now that I'm buying a 150 gallon and am spending time caring for the fish and tending to their needs(I'm still going through the learning curve), my girlfriend is getting jealous! This whole thing was her idea. I just had no idea how much I would enjoy these fish.

Does anyone elses girlfriends/wives/life partners/whatever get jealous that you love your fish or spend more time or money on the fish then them?

Include her in the things you do, let her help decorate the tank, pick fish, when you are surfing include her, show her cool pics and anything you find interesting. Doing things like that helped bring my wife around.

My girlfriend knows I love fish more than her. It creates an awkward relationship.

Haha, atleast she understands.

Sometimes. Get her a fish(or two) to call her own and put them in one of the big tanks.

It started with getting her a tank and thats how I discovered I like fish. She enjoys the fish being there, just hate that it takes up my time.

We set up, decorated, and picked fish together. That seems to be the only time she enjoys it, when I'm spending money on new fish. She enjoyed her little puffer but he died, I assume PH was too low and he couldnt deal with the freshwater.

Everyone is taking this really seriously. I was just posting in fun assuming everyone probably goes through this to an extent.

My girlfriend likes my fish. She's not "into" them like I am, but she enjoys watching them. She did actually get a bit excited when I got my rays though.

BTW, I assume by "RTC" you are talking about a Red-tailed Catfish? You realize that you're going to need an enormous tank to house that fish for life, right?

damn i get that allllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll the times care about my fishs more then other lol

Yeah, I happen to have an enormous space in my basement for the 1500 gallon tank/pond I have planned.
