So I know making new hybrids is sometimes frowned upon but I figure since Im starting with a hybrid x convict hybrid anyways it isn't such a big deal hehe. I'm going to be picking up either 6 or 15 (long story) jellybean parrots tomorrow. They're not dyed, just basically white and very cute looking; the females have a nice orange patch on them.

I'm going to get a pair or two out of them because they breed like cons, very fast, and very often, and I think they'd be cute additions to south American tanks everywhere. What I want to do with the remaining fish is try and cross them with some other south American cichlid to produce something really neat.

My assumption is that these fish can be crossed with anything a convict can be crossed with? I could very well be wrong here though so feel free to correct me. If so, what have cons been crossed with that I could realistically expect to cross these with? More importantly, what do you think would make interesting offspring? I don't have any pictures of the fish yet but I'll try and get some if I can.

Good Luck creating Hybrids that everyone wants takes time and years and lots of tanks. It took around 5 years to develop the flowerhorn. Arent male parrots Sterile?

Blood Parrots aren't sterile either, its a coin toss as to which ones are and which ones aren't. Alot like the FH.

Sorry to dissapoint you but male FH cannot be Compared to male BP. Fertile male BP is like 1/7k I believe. and most male FH are fertile.

From what I understand Jelly bean parrots are not hybrids, just short bodied pink convicts. Often times they are died to get bright colors.

They are definatly a hybrid. They are a Blood Parrot X Pink Convict from what I undestand. I have been looking for some here locally for a while with no luck so far.
