give them plenty of room in great water conditions and you will have lots of jewels... :D

You'd probably get a better response if you moved this over to the African Riverine forum.

But, jewels are easy. Clean water with adequate filtration and a mature pair, and you're pretty much good to go. Give them something to spawn on...a rock, clay pot, whatever.

Here's the female from one of my pairs with a brand new batch of babies. I moved these guys out to their own 20 gal, and they spawned the next day. I've got a few hundred jewel fry growing out now. God help me...:).

you made me laugh at that ... like the little old women in the shoe.... so many jewels you don't know what to do:nilly:She is a beautiful female....i actually never saw a female so red in color... is she a certain species..these babies must grow up to be gorgeous..

Once you get a breeding pair, you'll know it! They'll turn into energizer bunnies, just keep going and going and going!

Good luck!

I got them on Aquabid. They were sold as "Red Forest Jewels". The Red Forests are either H. Lifalili or H. cristatus. I believe mine are Lifalili, as they don't have the mid-body spot.

They are gorgeous...this isn't even my best female. This is the female in my first photo's mom:

Sorry the photos are so lousy. :irked: This pair is watching over a much larger brood...they've had a little practice now. :naughty: I think the old woman in the shoe is very apt! :D

seems that red jewels come under the heading of 2 fish, add water and you have babies..

at least that's what it seems like here.. we're growing out our 3rd spawn. we've probably left 6 or 8 spawns in the tank to be eaten by tank mates because we just didn't have any place to put them. In fact, i've got a brand new spawn out there with no place to go..

good news. they actually spawned. it took forever to realize it though because they are in a 30 long with a bunch of rock work and plates:)
