i like how you budgeted the tank out. I started doing that recently too, not really spending my paycheck on fish stuff but finding extra things to sell etc.

I was about to get the same exact tank pretty much for only 450 but the guy called the day before when he was suppose to give me his address to tell me someone outbid me by 300 dollars and i didnt want to go overboard since i would just be putting the tank in storage and selling all the livestock to cover the cost of the tank and then some

Tank looks great man. Nice update. It looks better fw than the previous owner had sw!

Salty fish smell.

Well I keep track of everything I do in an account so I am not taking money from the family for my tanks. Here is my break down. I sold allot of stuff I've collected over the years on CL to afford the tank to begin with. I used the money from the things on the tank I didn't use to basically stock it to this point. I will have more coming soon.

I went from owning to a rental house and the landlord would only allow one tank so I sold off almost everything I had to pay for this tank. He just gave me permission to set up my 135 G yesterday so I will have another build going soon.

In the end I basically spent $40 out of pocket for the gas I forgot to budget if that makes sense. What do you think? I thought I planned it fairly well. The FX5 is going to throw me way over though. I planned on selling the 135 to pay for it but now that I'm keeping that tank, I'll have to pay for the FX5 out of pocket.

wow, I think a few bouts of "I'm not worthy" are in order. I try to do things ona budget but you've easily put me to shame. nice work there and beautiful setup man!

Thanks! I worked hard on doing this set up with as little cost as possible. I plan on doing the next tank and taking people suggestions from MFK on ways to save cost by incorporating the suggestions into the build. I will be posting an updated budget every step of the way. Doing it this way kind of makes it an adventure and I like think it would be more fun.

A tank for todays economy ya know? Maybe it will help a few others plan their builds better. Good idea???

Thanks jojo! Looks like you and I will be racing on building 135g tanks! You got a head start on me for sure.

UPDATE

Needed to increase water flow speed and reduce the god aweful sound from the old standpipe that came with the tank. Finally got a respectable durso style pipe and it's working exactly like I had hoped. Set up is as close to silent as I know how to make it.

***before any of you SoCal guys get excited, the big bag of green stuff is algea wafers...!***

New durso on the left, old "Texas Holy Pipe" on the right.

Closeup on the old setup. Never seen this kind of crap wrapped around a pipe before but is was pulling down allot of air into the inlet line/reducing my flow and had to go.

Also finally got a couple of pics of the talking cats. WIll get em' up in a minute.

These things are an absolute PITA to get pics of or even find for that matter.

They were going to the LFS for store credit from the 135g. When I put the BGK in the new tank I saw one of these dart straight out of the net. I must have caught it by accident. No way was I going try and dig it out so I put the other one in there with it.

Cool little dude. Both are about 1.5" or so.

They have little spines all the way down their side.
