LOL yes that would be me. The youtube stuff helps sudsidize the money need to do things like this. The video you mentioned ironically is one of the worst paying videos I have (made 2.03) but i keep it up to help spread the word. Planned to donate to this site anything it made but i think i will just give the site 50.00 this spring and call it good. Youtube helped pay for half of this build and the filter on this tank. I have had alot going on as of late but will do a how to video on the tank as soon as i get time to edit up all the pics and fotage.

If you have other youtube related Questions feel free to pm me. As i dont wish to see this thread taken up with stuff unrelated to the fish and their needs.

That moment where you take one glance at your fish and instantly know something is wrong. Last night i went down to work on making a new cage for my quail and looked over at the tank. Jojos color was pink not red and TG didnt have his fins up and never came to the glass to say HI. I ran and grabbed my test kit and found this.

After calming down and a 15% water change I sat down to figur out what i had done wrong. The answer was a major plant filtration rookie mistake!! Plant filtration only works right if you have water movement in there roots. In my haste to get the tank done I had installed the filter output faceing away from the plants. I feel like such a morone right now!! The output is fixed and will do another water change tonight.

Why such a small WC? I may be wrong, but I'd do a 90%, then 50% twice every day til the params are back to norm.

Mine in Rochester, NY was too a 40 gal. 40 gal of 140 F water (highest) plus 45 F incoming water should make about 150 gal of 80 F water. I'd use a stove, etc. too. They may not last a few days with such high nitrites. Just trying to help. I am sure you know what you are doing.

Are there things for nitrites analogous to ammo-lock for ammonia?

The ammonia in 16 hours dumped to nothing as the plants are kicking in now. And nitrite dropped from 2.0 to 1. So its just a matter of bringing down the nitrate slowly. TG was fully active and wanted food tonight so im not worried now

Thank You i do apreciate it!!!
Basicly in plant filtration plants prefer to eat ammonium so that has to become depleated befor the plant will chose to eat nitrats
