WOW... If I waited 2 weeks for a 20-30% WC on my 120g with only my JK there would be a half inch of poop on the entire bottom of the tank! I do 40-60% weekly and still have a big mess to clean!
o ok i thought i was by myself on that :D ////i feed him all day long

thanks brother ill try changing his every 2 weeks and he is thriving at
7.8-8.0 he is eating like a gobblin and loves the mirror:D:naughty:

His color is super washed out so still need to look at the environment looking why it would cause it. Work on the tank some more and get some shrimp or enhancing food in his belly and see if we can get that red to pop.

90% on a fish your trying to get a KOK to pop is too much. Drastic water changes cause stress on them and KOK is the first thing to go. From my exp its best to try 20-30% ever 2 weeks and since he is solo in a 55g he isn't going to crap up the water that quickly. Every fish is diffrent so sometimes you have to play around. I use chemical ph adjusters to find out what the fish thrives in and then use coral or driftwood to buffer.

NEVER do 90% water changes what so ever. 30% every week is what I do and before the water change. Consistancy in PH is a main key of fish being healthy and thriving as well. I don't know with 90% water change every week will ever stabilize the PH in the tank? Unless you keep your straight tap water PH as long as it's good in range, but yea 90% WC is not recommended.

who says you have to wait for the wc to clean? On poop machines I will suck turds 2-3x a week so it wont build up.

my tap is always the same 8.0-8.2 and the tank brings it down just a little

do NOT feed him all day long. The best thing to do is feed them twice a day, and only upto their 50-70% of how much they can take so they always stay alert and active(this is what gives the extra boost for hump growth as well)

and fast them 1-2 days in a week, it's good to flush out their digestive system and it's good for head growth as well. I fast my FHs on the WC day, until the next day evening and only feed them once on that day.

Fish being shipped are super stressed for a couple of days then they color up. If he looks like he was shipped then he isnt happy so need to start eliminating possibilities. I may use those cheap backgrounds from the petstore and use a colorful one and see if that helps him out. Does he have a light?
