jumping lungfish

In that case - your water must have been quite nasty. For the sake of your poor lungfish, please keep his water in better condition. A fish should feel comfortable in his home, as opposed to trying to get out of it.

All it takes is ONE thing to be out of whack.

Perhaps you can look at it this way. If you were in your perfect vacation location, everything was just perfect, temp, weather, food, water, etc... except for ONE thing - Huge bloodsucking bugs all over the place (or substitute your own version) and you'd want to get the hell out of there.
That's what happens with fish and water. True, fishwater is rarely "perfect" but it should be healthy and ideal, and optimal as possible. I suggest keeping track of the parameters instead of waiting until your fish tries to get out of the water. At that point, it is already bad enough to have been a problem for quite some time. Catch things early, and remedy things early. Your fish will thank you for it.

your tank isent cycled.. you are supose to have 0 amonia, 0 nitrit, and some nitrate present... take the lungfish out and give it to someone with a cycled tank untill your water is cycled. By doing that w/c you are only prolonging the cycle. Cycle will not work because; it's the wrong type of bacteria. I would try using Bio-spira and test your water every 2 hours also have some prime present just incase you need to use it.
