I've started the process to try to get my 4 inch Juruense catfish off of live and even though I'm at the beginning of the process, I've started to wonder if I'm setting myself up for failure. Is it possible to get a small Juruense off of live? Or will I need to wait till the fish is bigger before it is willing to accept dead food?

Thanks.

My Juruense is by himself in a 150. He's not going into my main tank until he's off feeders. Last time he ate feeders was 7-8 days ago (15 guppies). The last few days, I've been trying to get him to eat frozen silversides and frozen bloodworms but he just sits there and doesn't move. He goes nuts when feeders are thrown in there so I know he has a good appetite. I was thinking about getting him some feeders tonight so I can rest assured that he's not starving to death and try next week again with the frozen food.

I see. Sounds good. 4" fish alone in a 150 gal? I feel like I am in a bizzaro world, but in a very, very good, refreshing way :) Sounds like he is happy and healthy. I would shy away from 1-2, even 3 week fast to break him. As long as the fish does not look starved, I'd battle the wills. Give him one more week and see what happens. If he starts taking it and spitting out, it is the sign things are going in the right direction.

I caved last night and got him feeders. He is currently fat and happy.

I've been trying frozen blood worms and frozen sliver sides. Anything else I should try that gave you success in the past? Thanks.

:) Mine liked appropriately cut pieces of raw (not cooked) shrimp... from Aldi. Remove the shell, of course. Live chopped earth worms are often recommended too.

These cats love to eat out of the current and currenly have 4" hand feeding on tilapia chunks. In a very active community tank. I would suggest trying a strong power head and drop food into the flow he will swim in 90 percent of the day

My 3" tig eats pellets and they are harder then a jur. Just only feed pellets he will take them eventually. If it goes for more the 2 wks just give one feeder and continue. All 4 of my tigs did. I used garlic to soak the pellets to help my one stubborn one take to pellets also.

It's been 2 weeks since I last got my Juruense feeder guppies. I got him 30 last time so they lasted him a few days. I've been trying to get him to take frozen blood worms for the last 5 days. No luck. I'm starting to think he'll actually starve himself to death as I really don't want to cave and get him another batch of feeders.
