I had the same thoughts that he would rather die than switch. Do indeed try pellets. Try raw shrimp. Try live earth worms.

My 3" tig eats pellets and they are harder then a jur. Just only feed pellets he will take them eventually. If it goes for more the 2 wks just give one feeder and continue. All 4 of my tigs did. I used garlic to soak the pellets to help my one stubborn one take to pellets also.

I like this suggestion. Give him full 2 weeks. If not, give 1-2 feeders. Give another 2 weeks. Giving up after one iteration is not due diligence...

I've tried some NLS Ther A thinking that the garlic in it might intice him...no luck. Also tried some Hikari sinking carnivore pellets...no luck. I've been really trying with the blood worm...what fish doesn't like blood worms, right?

I'm not giving up...this is just turning into more of a battle than I anticipated.

I caved and got more feeders. I'll let him feast for a bit and then give it another try. He was reluctently hitting a few pellets but that was not often. He would spit them out in the end.

That's a good sign. He will spit them out at first but eventually learn to swallow. That's what tigs and jurs did with my raw shrimp too.

I bought two juruense cats from Snookn21 (John) a week ago at his place and had a nice conversation with him. He said that small juruense are nearly impossible to wean off live. He tried great many times and failed, even though he uses excellent Hikari stuff (which reminds me - when you offered yours some pellets, did you offer Mascivore?). I don't believe John ever tries frozen fish/shrimp/etc, but I may be wrong. He said they do take blood worms and earth worms sometimes, but not consistently.

He also said that they need to be bigger, I am guessing at least 10" before one can safely try to fast them long and hard so they accept dead/dry foods. Otherwise, he says the small ones would rather starve to death. The ones I got from John are about 4" and I am following his advice of just sticking with live guppies for now. So I catch the guppies in my wild outside ponds then quarantine them while treating with praziquantel and metronidazole (prophylactic doze) and then give them to my little jurs.

Any news on your front?

I got mine a month ago from john, both of them eat freeze dried kril.

I got mine from John as well. Same size, 4 inch. I haven't had any luck with any types of pellets. I've tried some NLS Thera A and Hikari Sinking Carnivoire. I've tried some frozen stuff as well including blood worms and silversides with no success.

I recently had some success with earth worms, he took one last night (actually hit it hard which I was happy about) so maybe I can stop with the guppies for now.

I should give shrimp a try and see how he does with that.

Overall, my Jur is doing well, acts and looks good. I really hope he doesn't need to grow a lot bigger to get off live as I'd like to put him in my main tank. I don't feel comfortable putting him there until he'll accept the same foods as the occupants of the main tank. I think it would be difficult to feed him in the main tank if he's still on a special diet.
