Jurupari got pretty lately. New pics.

That is a lot of red in the dorsal. My camera never seems to catch that color (flash washes it out) on my S. maps. Beautiful leuco, what are you feeding?

The red only shows up when the fish is turned slightly away from the camera, at about 4 or 8 o'clock if the fish's nose is 12 o'clock. I usually can't catch the red either! He eats everything from algae wafers to massivore to HBH cichlid attack. He also is a hog for canned peas and I suspect he is eating the bladder snails when he finds them.

How long did it take for the colors to come out?
He's about one year old and only in the last few months have his colors popped and his dorsal fin grown so long. I suspect sexual maturity and spring photoperiod with increased feeding brings out their best tones. He's not large yet, perhaps 4.5" of body mass. I keep all my fish on the thin side and jurupari are somewhat slow growers so I believe he's on schedule for size and age. Am I wrong? Nitrates were getting in the 40's for awhile there before the pothos. Now they don't even hit ten in a week. So if he's delayed at all he'll have no problem catching up now.

I keep those big snails in one of my tanks too. They're decent cleaners but they devour plants quickly.

You find em in a ditch?
