jus added a breeding pair of convicts

well i got bored, and convicts are cheap in my area. my piranha tank hasn't been much of interest to me lately so it thought i'd spunk it up a bit so i give it more attention. built a fat structure in the corner of my 100gal tank with so many hiding spaces but passages that are to small for the piranhas. hopefully gives the convicts a good place to run n hide if they get chased. after i tossed in the pair they went straight for the structure and took it over within 20 mins. the piranhas show no interest towards the convicts. kinda checked out there structure but the convict kept poppin out of different places i guess to kinda show the piranhas like, "aye, this is my area" and the piranhas have stayed away from the structure since.

im thinkin since they hide all day anyway, they might have a chance of surviving. and if they get chased, they have somewhere to hide that the piranhas can't get in to. my goal is to get them to breed in this massive structure they hide in, and the piranhas can eat off the babies lol. ill keep u guys updated on this lil project.

Good idea, though it is not much of an existence having to hide all day. Then again same goes for all fish that we put in our piranha tanks..

In fact i really like this idea. Make sure you do not get too attached to the cons though. I can see one getting a bit too chancy outside its structure and getting nabbed by one of the piranhas.

Any pictures of the little structure? What is it made out of?

the structure is just a bunch of rocks stacked close together, im going to add more rocks to the structure today to make it about a 2ft high structure. i dont care if i dont see the cons all day. aslong as they pair up n breed inside that thing haha. seems like a decent idea. and i doubt ill be gettin attatched to them really, they were cheap n all i want is there babies. if my pair get eaten ill put a divider up with holes big enough for babies to escape and get eaten but small enough so the parents cant fit through. the pair of cons are like 3-4" and look pretty sweet.

Nice setup ethnics....Thumbsup...Only problem I see with con jungle gyms is the cleaning aspect....Eventually, you may have to get into this thing and clean all around and underneath it.....Then again, you may choose not to, your choice....Personally, I thnk con pairs should be placed in their tanks(they get rather mean), but they also do add some movement to a p tank(so good job)....I know you have seen my recent thread on my 4 inch male con, he survived for 5 months....Do not get too attached(I did).....Post some pix....

do i sense sarcasm master.k? i dont really care if you dissagree with what im doing. i dont care for convicts in any way. there the most plain fish in the hobby and breed so damn often that i could care less for the species in general.

and importracer, yah i saw ur last post. thats what made me wanna do it haha. i didnt see ur tank tho so i took the idea of havin the cons in the tank but jus thought, if i gave them the ultimate place to hide, how could they get eaten? yes they could get tore up if the male decided to get bold and try to fight off 9 piranhas. but i thought ah what the hell, maybe he'll be smart enough to know that theres 1 of him, and 9 of them. he has swam around, his tail has already gotten nipped. do i care? nah not really... i jus wanna see some babies. never had convicts before.

Look at my tank ethnics...My con survived in this enviroment for 5 months...I'm pretty sure if I had setup something like you are doing, "Grandpa" the convict would of been still alive...

Wow, i am even more surprised your con survived now after seeing your setup importracer! There are absolutely no hiding places! That con really was on borrowed time the moment it hit that tanks water!

wow import, im surprised ur con lasted that long in there... not a single place to hide. i have about 8 large rocks now used to make the structure. in the pics all you can really see is the larger ones but under that inside, there's about 5 more piled up with small passages going around and thru this thing. the cons must love it.
