Thats an interesting concept. Let us know how it turns out.

hmmm... i kinda like this idea.
what i just dont like is when u said
"i dont care for convicts in any way. there the most plain fish in the hobby and breed so damn often that i could care less for the species in general."
that just stinks. i know thats ur persnal opinion but u cudve just kept it to urself. i have cons and ps myself. and i disagree that cons are "boring" as to what u wanna say. ill bet ur cons if they pair and breed would kick the living hell out of ur Ps. dont be surprised. ive seen this @pfury alot.

i didnt say there boring. i just meant i dont really care for them because of how many are in the hobby aleady. and how often they breed, i doubt the hobby would care if my 2 got eaten. there pretty cool fish, i like how they work together. and i highly doubt and can almost guarantee they have nothing on my 9 piranhas haha. teeth vs no teeth. end of story. but im hoping they survive. i have no fear for my piranhas, just fear they wont hold back.

I think you will be suprised by how well this pair does. I once had a breeding pair defend their fry from a 10 jaguar in a 180 gallon tank. They owned the center of the tank from the time they had babies until I pulled the babies out 1 week later. I pulled the babies out because I was afraid of the parents killing my 4 inch flowerhorn who was also in the tank. I think your plan will work out better than you think.

good to know, they are showing way more agression now and defending the heck out of the rock structure. lets see how much longer before i start noticing any fry. i hope they even pair'd up.. when i bought them i kept my eye out for 2 that swam around together already but none were already breeding, i noticed the pinkish orangish belly so i figured thats the female, then the male was much larger and had more of a forehead then the female, he's always flaring his gills at the piranhas but they take turns swimming around to check there surroundings. but they have dug up some gravel like he's trying to hide something, hope to see some babies pretty soon.

cool idea man i did the same thing with my red tail payaras everything was fine, the convicts were breeding, but there were very bold and would scare and chase the payara evetually 1 of my payara that was very skittish smashed against a rock and killed himself because the the tuff little convict. I was thinking if they get bold they can scare the piranha like they did my red tail payara and get the whole pack smashing against the glass for no resaon.

Love the idea, and from experience, I WORKS!!! I had a 50 gall tank set up with all guppys, who produce like crazy. My daughter loved it. But when it started to get crowed, I started to take the babies and feed them to my 4 oscars! It was great actually, I didn't have to buy feeders as much!

This should be very interesting, keep us posted.

My money is on the cons. The piranha I've obsreved, when attacking a fish about equal in size seem to attack from behind and from below. I would dought a mated pair of cons will ever be in this position. they take on everything head on. Plus there quick, and will abush the P's. Soon your P's will all be huddled at the opposite end of the tank. When the fry come they will kill the P's.

I'd like to do something like this with my P's but they are 6-7 inches and have never had a live fish........cool Idea though I think I'll do it anyway
