  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
the drops are going in the new tank which he is not in yet i would never put it inthe tank he is in firtly. And i think i am goinna buy some drift wood for the new tank to drop the ph to were he is at.....i do weekly water changes and the tank still doesnt change the ph of the old tank..plus i dont want to stress him out then he already is bc he hides when i do water changes....and i am only usuing the buffer in the new tank to just get it to were i want it not to always use it bc i never after using it once on the old tank had to use it ever again....unless after i use it it makes the ph go back to 7.6 quickly then i wont use it....this is soo cunfusing to me (got pick of him on my info that are new to see if that helps)

ok this is were i get confused i have people telling me that its ok to drip rate him to the new tank w/ a ph of 7.6 and then i have people at the aquairum stores telling me NO it will kill him...now mind you these people in this store had to go to school before working w/ fish....so i am getting really confused about what i should do and i used buffers in his old tank btw and he was fine i just dont want to go thru all this crap and he dies on me i want to do it right! I LOVE HIM!! and spent to much money to try and keep him safe so i dont know who to belive to tell ya the tuth
the people at the store area also trying to sell a product. keep that in mind.

Your currently getting advice from actual ray keepers, i doubt the people at you LFS have ever owned a ray and are giving you pretty generic advice... I dont mean this for all people that work at pet stores, some do own rays, but most dont....

Feed what your ray will eat until you see his lower back protrude a bit. A full tummy is all he needs, dont gorge him.

As for the PH issue..... read back on a few of your other threads, there were some really good advice in there.....
Dripping the ray over a few hours will not acclimate the ray to that ph... it takes days, if not weeks.... When your switching a ph in a tank, your also changing the ph of a rays blood. Its not a good choice to do it fast(dripping for a few hours). unless you have no other choice, but in you case, you do. I only ever drip a ray, or any fish really, to get the temp the same, so its not too much of a shock... The reason behind this, is my rays came from a different PH than what i have, so instead of changing mine to match where they came from, i just add them after i get the temp right. In the long run, i want them to be acclimated to whatever my tap waters ph is.... Why is it ok for me to just "dump" them in, and not you? i didnt have the option really.... you do.

I would do what was recommended to you previously... do small water changes over the course of a couple of weeks, until the 40gal is the same ph as the taps.

thank's joey020283 i think i am gonna do that but what i don't get is my 40 i do weekly water changes and the ph is still 6.0 so i need to figure out y it wont just stay at 7.0 i dunno what to do ....i guess i have to feed him less untill i can get him in the new tank. i do feed him his ghost shrimp but his back never gets puffed up but he has a very fat tail know what ur talking about but do i want him to be like that in such a small tank?

You need to do DAILY waterchanges of 50% not WEEKLY.

the weekly water changes is why it does it, the water quality in your 40 is CRAP do daily water changes of 50% on the 40 gallon

like i said i was told it will stress him out if i do it daily?..and can i do a 25% water change instead of 50 not to get him upset? bc right now i take out 4gal so that i can double it to 8. and since i didnt feed him for a day the ph went to 6.5 i do try to keep him at that range bc i read they like the ph at 6-6.75 is that worng also? the book i got is one of the best for beginers its by a man named ross. (he has been very active still today and was around an about for most of he day almost like himself)
