should i use my 10g tank as quaratine tank?
yes
is a bare bottom tank just a tank with no sand/gravel etc. on the bottom?
yes
what is a sand filter? does it filter the sand or is it like a filter that filters the water using sand or something?
it forces the water through sand.. like a brita filter or a pool filter
phosban reactor? what is it, whats it for?
it neutralizes phosphates.. unless you have a lot of money and can spend 2-300 for a luxary don;t worry about these
what sort of suppliments and buffers will i need?
calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium i think are the most important
dang i had a whole bunch more questions but firefox crashed because of that stupid AFP bug......this is all i can think of atm
:D
and thanks for the link bacon, add me on msn johnny_piper@hotmail.com i might need your help with setup when im actually doing it =P lol

that was easy:)

can you get little phosphate things for the bottom of the tank that remove phosphates?

Bottom of the tank?
Never heard of a phosphate remover that sits at the bottom of the tank...

you can get some stuff yo put in a mesh bag that sits in your sump/filter that removes phosphates.

so far on my list on things to buy i need are:

Protein Skimmer

Calcium Reactor Or Calcium Supplement

Water Heater

Power Heads

T-5 Bulb

Instant Ocean Salt

Live Rock

Live Sand

UV Sterilizer???

Other Chemicals/Supplements/Buffers

anything im missing?

thats only for setup then there's the clean up crew, fish, corals etc....

Bio Balls.....How Many? i heard its best to put them in your filter right? but i do not have a wet dry filter, its a canister sooo..... would it be best to sell my canister filter and get a sump? can you even buy sumps? or do you have to make your own......lol

how long should i wait after the tanks matured and water is suitable for fish before i start adding in the clean up crew? or can i add some guys in right away?

UV Sterilizer???-naw

Other Chemicals/Supplements/Buffers-not an immediate need but good to have

anything im missing?
refratometer or hydrometer

thats only for setup then there's the clean up crew, fish, corals etc....

LR chunks would be better

get a master test kit.. when there's no ammonia or nitrite start adding your stock

knew i was forgetting something

Hydrometer, well how much do refractometers go for?

Master Test Kit

also whats the average pricing for live rock? when stacking them whats the best way to go about it? like can you glue them together or zip tie them? do i need to "cure it" before adding them to the tank?

what is the main purpose of a QT Tank? to observe the health of the fish im asuming? or to cure fish ailments?

how much LS would i need for a 120g? would 20LB be sufficient for a 2" sand base? and if im buying sand such as carib sea do i to "cure it"?

also what is the proper water chemistry for a sw tank?

temp 75-80
SG 1.021-0.25
pH 8.1-8.4
Ammonia 0
Nitrates 0
others?

Hydrometer, well how much do refractometers go for?- $30-60

Master Test Kit- depends what brand ~$20

also whats the average pricing for live rock? - between $5 and 12 around me.. the 12 stuff is gorgeous and i use the cheap stuff or even base rock for the bottom structures
when stacking them whats the best way to go about it? ugliest stuff on bottom/inside, best looking stuff outside
like can you glue them together or zip tie them? yeah, i used a 2 part epoxy to clue together some pieces in my 75do i need to "cure it" before adding them to the tank? only if it's not cured already.. you'll know when you buy it... generally if it seems really cheap it's probably not cured

what is the main purpose of a QT Tank? to observe the health of the fish im asuming? or to cure fish ailments? so that A) you don't have to pay for meds to treat 30+ gallons of water B) if you notice something on the fish you can hopefully return it without infecting your show fish and C) that you don't need to add meds to a tank potentially housing corals and other sensitive inverts

how much LS would i need for a 120g? depends on alot of things would 20LB be sufficient for a 2" sand base? no, i used 90 pounds for a 3-4 inch sandbed on a 75. your tank has a bigger footprint but you want less so it might be around 90 as well and if im buying sand such as carib sea do i to "cure it"? just buy dry sand... it's cheaper, you can clean it, and it'l be live within a month anyways

also what is the proper water chemistry for a sw tank?

temp 75-80
SG 1.021-0.25
pH 8.1-8.4
Ammonia 0
Nitrates 0

unless you had corals this would be all you'd care about, but a nitrite test would come with a master test kit, i asume you just forgot that

Don't forget about Phosphorus, not as bad as the others but if it gets out of hand it can spread algae like a MoFo. A master test kit should have phos testing solution.

And yeah, Drs. Foster&Smith sells two refractometers, one for $60, and one for $100.
I have the $100 dollar one, i also HIGHLY suggest a refractometer over a hydrometer, much easyer to use, easyer to clean, and way more acurate.

does a refractometer just measure SG?

what are the advantages of a sump over a mechanical(canister) filter? i want to get a sump but not sure id have the space for it, and i already have a canister filter and if i got a sump id probably sell the canister, i saw this sump on ebay and was wondering if it was worth the buy
