I did a long time ago saw a lot of maybe's and probably shouldn'ts but I have not had any issues with this combo. I am just curious to what you think the problem is?

I have had all these fish since they were small and they have all grown a lot so I dont see what the problem is. When ever a new fish went in the Dats would initiate them, after that they were never bothered again.
 
look u can try what u want.
Just lettin u know, that some of ur tankmates(to be exact, 2 species) are bad for gar. The O is a horrible choise for gar, and any silvery tankmates are most likly gonna get attacked by the gar. Gar LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE to bite shiney fish. the dats are fine for gar.

reality is u can try what u want. just from experience from other members(including very experienced gar keepers) that Os are a very bad choise and silvery fish 90% of the time will get attacked. just lettin u know

p.s. just realised that u have a fei fang. if im not mistaken that is a algae eatter correct? for some reason, i strongly remember that fei fang are slime suckers. Extremely fatal to gar. It will kill the gar, if im thinking of the same fish.

no offense,but you really dont need to make such a big deal out of it.
yes,these fish are commonly known to be bad gar tankmates,but hes done it for a very long time without problems.
despite there being members with bad experiences,there are many who have had no problems keeping gar with cichlids and such,myself included.
