no offense, but you really dont need to make such a big deal out of it.
yes, these fish are commonly known to be bad gar tankmates, but hes done it for a very long time without problems.
despite there being members with bad experiences, there are many who have had no problems keeping gar with cichlids and such, myself included.

Wow... A big improvement! The black looks a lot better in my opinion.

well, the OP said he had them in together for quite a while,i'll let him speak for himself.
but i have done it myself numerous times.
no matter how long it actually lasted,i never had problems.
what you did was give perfect advice to anyone new to gar,but im sure the OP knows what hes doing.:)

I have had the gar since ‎February-‎21-‎09, this guy is a wimp... he wouldnt eat feeders and has not attacked any fish, the Oscar is fine too. He will protect him self but he is not like the tiger I had that was very territorial which is why I got rid of him.

All of my fish have been together for at least 1 year if not longer with no problems.

I might of got him a little while before that; that is just the date of the first pic I could find.

Thanks everybody!!
