No, you do not need bottom trim. I would build a sturdy stand with 3/4" plywood across the top (where the tank will sit), then put a piece of styrofoam insulation on top of the plywood to even out any irregularities.. so it will look like:
Tank->Styro sheet->plywood-> stand base. Obviously, the stand base would need to support all edges, I would probably add middle support too in the base.

Do you mean a stand edges would give support like the trim normally would? In which case i agree. I know people have had good luck with no support top OR bottom w/just silicone, but you dont have the same level of safety.

From the pictures, it looks like the tank USED to have a bottom trim on it.

Did you see the tank full of water before you bought it? My guess is the tank was leaking, someone pulled off the bottom trim to try and solve the problem and gave up on it.

x2 for resealing it, or fill it with water for a week before bringing it inside.

Great deal. Imo if you have a stand that has an entire top on it not just a frame you do not need the trim. Some people that use massive amount of large rocks in their tanks often use no bottom trim so the bottom glass will be supported entirely not just at the edges like with the trim. But definately clean and test fill outside if it doesnt leak and the silicone is not dried out then no need to reseal unless you just want to. You could also just build a frame out of 1x1s and screw it to the top of the stand then put the tank inside it if you want extra security.

You don't need a bottom trim. A little piece of plastic is not going to hold the tank together. It's only important on the top because you have the cross brace. Lots of people make custom tanks without a bottom trim.

Its there for a reason though. Like I said before, I know some have gotten by without it but why reduce the strength of the tank if you dont have to? A molded plastic trim may not look like much , but it can be the difference between a solid tank and a blowout. Plus if that silicone is really old or has been sitting out in the sun it may have been degraded. Maybe its not needed.. who knows but its advice the OP can take or leave.. lol.. his tank/fish/house.
