Just bought a baby gar.. Need help with identification :)

hi guys... thanks your your help.. what feature of the gar makes you identify it as a florida gar?

i thought the nose would make it a little long for a florida gar

Short nose gar and long nose is a stuff way to ID a gar. Florida and spotted gar are so close. Best way to ID is spotting style, the rows (if any) of teeth in its snout and also the secondary coloration on the gar. Funny people pay money for these. In Texas they are a problem fish. We catch them all the time and most fishermen throw them up on the bank to die. I moved to PA and people are paying 60-100 bucks for these guys

this little guy cost me $3.40 SGD :)

seems like its a florida gar then

the farm had another type of gar which cost slightly more at $6.80.. didn't dare to get it as i was afraid it might be aligator gar type :p

shall take pictures of that one for identification next time haha

that is not the way to ID whether a gar is spotted or Florida!
BTW they are rare fish in PA and there is nothing funny about that!
