Just bought a pair on convicts and a Oscar!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hmm I'm new to keeping large cichlids so my dad has been helping me ( He had quite a few of them himself ), He said that the oscar will grow to his tank size, and I'm trusting him ( He has 30 years of fish keeping under his belt )

Yeah, I never wanted the Swordtails don't mind if they get eaten in a flash, it will give him something to do, He's started to stop sulk but when i get close to him he'll go straight behind the filter, I tried to net him to look at him closer (Its a little hard to look at him when he's Behind the filter) I think thats why he's shy.

No, I'm not planning to feed the fry to the O, I'm planning to Trade them for over fish or a big, Big fish tank ( Just let them grow to adult size and free fish tank :D )

I was wondering if i should separate the convicts from each other because the female is impregnate and i don't want the male eating there spawn for obvious reasons ^^ (even though there a chance of the female eating them).

The male has been chasing around the female and I'm not quite sure what that means, Dad and I don't think it's anything but I just want to be on the safe side.

Cheers

sorry ive always undrstood and feed my oscars house spiders here in england and doesnt seem to have done them any harm<maybe spiders in oz might pose a prob.....<black widows:FIREdevil
dunni spider:hitting: :help2:

you say you just brought your oscar so give it some time to get used to its new surroundings try not to keep netting it...just give it some time:popcorn:
he will grow very quick around a 1inch or more a month....
if your cons have paired of its not going to be a prob with them in the same tank...cons make wonderful parents...prob wouldnt get alot for con babies<convicts=just add water for babies>general forplay involves lip locking chasing about<to a degree>flaring of the gills<stand offs>digging of pits and cleaning ripping out plants and cleaning rocks/slate togther..but cichlids dont always pair off with who you think is sutible for them to:WHOA:

Hmm i think they have paired or because i did find them facing each other, I don't know if they were lip locking though. Lol, The black widows aren't the wons i would be worried about for feeding my O... Funnel web spiders are apparently the most venomous Spiders on earth... But there in Sydney, I live in Brisbane.

But he says it won't grow that big because its in a smaller tank, It'll just grow to suit its tank.

seriously mate it will outgrow you tank, the prob is if you keep i in a small tank aswell it will stunt its growth maybe not now but as it grows and this will lead to a shorter life span and health issues later in life...one of mine has grown from 0.5inchs - 9inchs in 1year and stocky....the other i got at a inch 10 months ago and no its 8inchs and stocky....if you look in the picture section for the post oscars picture thread you can see the sizes mine were and are....

Hmm, your probably Right Any way, I was planning to get a big tank for south/central American Cichlids, But i wasn't planning to put in a oscar, Seems like I'll have to. Do you reckon abut 5 cons, a oscar, and 2 red devils would beat up a 5 discus?

wow deff would not dothat......would not do that myself discus are sooo placid n devils n cons evil...hehe...n the prices of discus well here anyway

I was planning to breed the discus and put their fry in the tank and let them suffer it out.
