i can afford 2m aquarium long, but like when my dad comesLupin;2175679; said:125g is not enough in the long run. What is the biggest tank you can possibly accommodate in your house?

aha i c.. thanks anywayctoychik;2175682; said:"125" means 125 gallon in this tread. It is a measure of volume. Since you probably not yet familiar 125 gallon equals 473 ~liters (a 1.8 long 0.55 wide would be ok for awhile for you). Just leave the small fish with your RTC ... you will be surprised how fast they will dissapear ^^
thanks.. anyway i just put 3 fishes and cut another 3 fishes.. the dead ones dissaprearedblurock;2175687; said:He'll eat any fish in the tank he can fit into his mouth. But as mentioned that tank is way too small for him... he may not need a 125 gallon at the moment, but will very soon, like in a month or two... so might as well invest in a large tank now, and start building a pond, or just invest in a 300 gallon now and get it over with...
They grow rapidly and get HUGE! The small size of this tank may stress him out to the point of death if not moved soon.
However, once you get him in more appropriate housing they are pretty easy to care for. You just have to worry about the size. If you can't house him properly, take him back or give him to someone who can. It's unfair to the fish to treat him like that...
And just some extra info... you should really never put speakers with loud music right next to any tank... just cause you like the music doesn't mean fish will... they don't think and hear like we do... that fishes senses will become shocked by the sound vibrations. there's a reason your not supposed to tap on the glass at aquariums. It's bad for the fish.
oh and feeding, try fish fillets, market shrimp, bloodworms, earthworms, silversides, anything like that, they aren't real picky. But stop feeding it feeders unless thats the only think you can get it to eat, and even at that you'll want to wean it off the feeders. Feeder fish can carry all kinds of nasties that can make your fish really sick and possibly kill it. Frozen or prepared foods reduce this risk by a huge margin
wow 3 meters is sooooooooooooo biiiiiig.. the one im using now is 33g too badbenzjamin13;2175695; said:RTCs are from South America. It's one of the largest freshwater catfish with can reach 300cm. It's very personable and cute which make a lot of people want to buy them on impulse, but they quickly grow over 30cm within the first year. Even a 1136 liter tank would be too small for a full grown RTC. To be honest, I think a 22700 liter would be the minimum for these guys. Anytime they turn pale, it's due to stress. Being a bottom dweller, the crayfish may be bothering it. It's very important to keep up with water changes with them. They will develop excess mucus which will kind of tell you that the water needs changing. They will eat anything that will fit in their mouths. So tank mates must be bigger than the RTCs themselves.
